GERARD DE HOOP

Gerard de Hoop is a designer based in Groningen, the Netherlands, working across furniture, product and spatial design. He studied Architectural and Interior Design at Minerva Art Academy in Groningen.

His work is characterized by geometric clarity, a strong graphic language and a conceptual approach. Functionality and simplicity form the basis of his designs, often combined with experimentation and a playful quality.

His work ranges from furniture and everyday objects to spatial and architectural projects. Rather than working from a fixed style, each design develops from a clear idea, with particular attention to form, construction, material and use.

Alongside commissioned work, De Hoop develops independent concepts that explore new forms, functions and ways of using familiar objects. The combination of commissioned projects and independent work forms an important part of his design practice.

A number of his designs have been produced and are included in international design collections.
