Folly Altitude
2014
Entry for the Folly design competition issued by Stichting Landgoed Fraeylemaborg, Slochteren (NL).
The starting point for the shape and dimensions of folly Altitude is the standard size of a shipping container — the maximum volume within which the design had to remain. This container was divided into eight smaller segments, each gradually lifted to different heights. This stepped composition creates a series of spaces that visitors can walk through, offering opportunities for small-scale exhibitions.
Each segment stands on a single column, yet together they form a stable and cohesive sculptural structure. The clear geometry and sharp lines contrast strikingly with the romantic and baroque atmosphere of the English landscape garden of the Fraeylemaborg estate. The bright orange color provides a bold visual accent against the predominantly green backdrop of the park.
